CURRENT NEWS:

WORK DAY WEED-A-THON

Thanks to everyone who came out for the work day on Saturday.  All of the rain we’ve had has created a weed forest–as I’m sure everyone has noticed.  Thanks to:  Ethan for piloting the weed whacker along the fence lines and all around the garden; David J, Summer, and crew for clearing the area by the north fence; Christine and crew for all of the work on the perennial beds; Cindy, Maya, David O for weeding the donation plot; Tom, Fran, Ron and Sue Ann for great pathway work; and to everyone else who I have failed to mention, thanks so much for helping to keep the garden looking great.

SPEAKING OF WEEDS….

We know it’s hot out right now, but don’t forget to weed your gardens AND the pathways around your plots.  A lot of the work done on the work day was weeding pathways that should already have been weeded.  Not only do weeds inhibit other plant growth, the seeds they produce spread into other areas, and nobody wants more weeds.
(“Weeds” include invasive species like dill, amaranth and cosmos, as well as the obvious mullein, mallow, and the dreaded goatshead.)

POTLUCKJoin us this coming Sunday, July 16 at 5pm for our first potluck of 2023! Bring something to share, meet your gardening neighbors, discuss plant or pest woes, network…make it what you want.  Contact Ana at atolenti@aol.com to coordinate.

TIME TO BOKASHI

The bokashi and compost teams have been working hard to create lots of sweet, sweet bokashi and compost for gardeners to use.

Each week the bokashi and compost teams produce beneficial products for everyone’s plots – bokashi tea (available in the barrels with spigots in the back left) and fresh mulch (available in the lumber box in the back right). These programs not only benefit the plants in our gardens through their use but also help reduce our compost footprint  by reusing weeds, branches and other materials produced by the garden for the greater good. Now is a great time to add a weekly splash of bokashi to your plants to provide extra nutrients for growth.
Pro tip:  Apply bokashi after you’ve harvested and weeded to minimize the lingering essence on your hands.  Just sayin’.
And don’t forget to sign up for a bokashi session.

HOURS REMINDER

Just a reminder that we are all required to commit a minimum of 10 hours per season to the general upkeep and maintenance of the common areas of the garden.  If you’ve been working hard for the garden, don’t forget to record those hours. Work days and fully participating with the team you have signed up with is the best way to complete this commitment.

Attached is an updated Hours Report to check your progress.

If you have any questions on how to meet your hours commitment, please contact leadership@rosedalegarden.org.
